Santa Catalina and Puerto Canteras

Santa Catalina and Las Arenas shopping zone, as the name implies a shopping area along the harbor and seafront promenade of Playa de Las Canteras. Also here you can find plenty of small shops (Bazars) and shopping centers. Our shopping trip I am going start with you near the Santa Catalina Park. At the edge of the park is located the Gran Casino de Las Palmas and the Museum Elder de la Ciencia y la Tecnologia. Before we walk to the other end of Playa de Las Canteras, I would like to introduce you the Bazars.

Bazars are small cozy shops divided over the city. If you the shopping routes properly define, you are always near a Bazar, located each a few meters walking distance of the beach of Las Palmas, Playa de las Canteras. A Bazar you can compare a little by a local shop with us.

They sell soft drinks, cigarettes, cigars, tobacco, newspapers and magazines, souvenirs, bus tickets etc …The people behind those Bazars welcome you ever with open arms and are very friendly and helpful. So you’re just off the tourist track and a few minutes in the real Las Palmas.

La Paqueña Habana is a salsa bar where you can feel the warm atmosphere and degustate of the Caribbean . Cuban bands with live music will bring you with salsa and rumba in exotic realms. The dancing is colorfully decorated, the dance floor invites you to an erotic dance. Not that you have time during your vacation , but the owner of the bar regularly organizes salsa lessons, Just to let you know.

El Muelle and Santa Catalina in Puerto de La Luz

Puerto de la Luz is located near the beach of Las Palmas, Playa de Las Canteras and Mesa y Lopez, two major shopping areas of Las Palmas. Here you can choose whether you want to deviate from your route or not. Is Puerto de La Luz interesting? I think it is. ( Map )

Cruise to Gran Canaria with arrival in Puerto de La Luz in Las Palmas

Puerto de la Luz is an important part of the port of Las Palmas. Annually anchor here several known and lesser known cruise ships of various shipping companies. Among others MSC Cruises, Princess Cruises, Cunard Line, Royal Caribbean International and some others, finding annually the third largest port in Spain,

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The arrival of the coast of Las Palmas has to be a beautiful sight. I can see me only imagine the coast of Gran Canaria from the Atlantic Ocean, a panorama of the beautiful beach of Playa de Las Canteras beach of our capital Las Palmas. Thousands of tourists discover so the beauty of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Especially the tax-free shopping attracts the attention. It definitely worthwhile to visit the cruise ships. Especially for the photographers among us not to be missed this. If you’re near one of these majestic cruise ships staysthen you feel however small in this world.

The Britannia of the shipping company P & O Cruises, the famous Queen Mary 2, Explorer of the Seas and the Queen Victoria are just a few of the world famous cruises they visiting annualy the port of Las Palmas . I have for you here a list of all cruise ships that visit Las Palmas this year.

If you stroll along Muelle Santa Catalina you’ll pass the same Shopping center El Muelle. This mall has a ground floor and four levels of shops, bars and restaurants.

A Hiperdino, C & A, Douglas, Bershka, Guess and more businesses welcome you to this cozy shopping center. On the third floor you have a few restaurants including a pizzeria and a wok restaurant.

A little further away you have have Muelle de Transbordadores where the Jet Foil departs if you want to make a trip to the other Canary Islands. You still have other landmarks that you can visit. The Museo Elder de la Ciencia y Tecnologia and the Real Club Nautico de Gran Canaria with the marina. This club with 135 berths, dry dock and almost 6,000 members, has existed since 1908. In addition, the Real Club Nautico offers tennis courts, a fitness center and other sport activities.

Market at Puerto de la Luz

The Mercado del Puerto de La Luz (map) is located on the harbor, at the end of Las Canteras near Castillo de la Luz. Here is a nice mix of friendly locals and tourists. The iron market building was built in 1891 and restored in 1994.

You will find meat, vegetables, fruit, flowers, but today in the modern Las Palmas is also a meeting point with a recreational and gastronomic atmosphere.

Especially at night, the locals enjoy on the terraces with a glass of Canary wine and tapas. Here you can feel the vibrant Spain, an atmosphere to taste. Especially Friday seems that no one is home, but all on the market. Definitely recommended.

Las Arenas shopping center in Las Palmas

The shopping center or Centro Comercial “Las Arenas” is the largest shopping area of Las Palmas. It is located about 15 minutes from the city center and is easily accessible by bus or guagua municipal. There are more than 100 shops, restaurants and bars in Las Arenas. All this in a very cozy and friendly environment. One of the most popular retail stores is Primark where you can go search for dirt-cheap clothing.

Some other known clothes shops are Zara, C & A, H & M and many others. Nevertheless I can highly recommend you to rejoice the shops of local trades and businesses with a visit. These stores or boutiques usually have exclusive clothes, shoes, handbags Women from spanish or italian produce, and of excellent quality. In addition are these sometimes just as cheap than the major brands.

For children may obviously the Disney Store and Hello Kitty are not lacking. After shopping I can highly recommend you a tasty bocadillo, tapas or other Canarian dish to eat in the many bars and restaurants, indoor or outdoor. The kids will lovely found in the immense McDonalds. If you are a fan of electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets and games than not forget the Media Markt and one of the largest Carrefour stores on the island can be found in Las Arenas.

The shopping center Las Arenas is open every day from 10:00 to 01:00. The stores usually to 22.00. On Sundays it is closed with some exceptions when the shops are open or on special occasions. Please visit also the website of Las Arenas Shopping Center

How do I reach shopping center Las Arenas?

Las Arenas is located at the end of the promenade of Las Canteras On foot it is from the center about 30 minutes walking along the beautiful beach of Playa de Las Canteras The Guaguas Municipales can also bringing you to the shopping center ( map ). By bus nrs 17, 25, 35, 45, 47 and L2 you reach the bus stops at the shopping center. You can get off at the bus stop “Aparcamiento intermodal de El Rincón” of “Auditorio“.

A busticket one-way costs € 1.40 per person if you pay on the bus to the driver. If you buy a bus ticket in advance you get a discount. BONO-2 is a return ticket for € 2.40. BONO Guagua Sin Contacto cost you € 8.50 for 10 runs. This card costs € 1.50 + one time reload amount with a minimum of € 8.50 and a maximum of € 50.

These tickets can buy you in bus stations, shops and bazaars. Some buses are specially designed for wheelchair users. A drive for a wheelchair user costs € 1.80 per person.
