Beach and Las Palmas: A perfect combination
When you go on holiday to Gran Canaria, the first thing you think of is beach and hotel. You probably think that the south of the island has the most beautiful beaches. If so, I disagree. A city with no less than 6 beaches, Playa de las Canteras, El Confital to name a few, that is Las Palmas.
Playa de las Canteras
I can imagine that you came to Gran Canaria by plane. Now suppose you wanted something different for once, and you opted for a cruise. Then, when you see the city of Las Palmas appear on the horizon from the cruise ship, you immediately notice Las Palmas’ pearl, and that is Playa de las Canteras.

A long sandy strip of 3 km adorns the city’s main promenade. You can hardly see any difference from the well-known beaches in the south such as Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas and Playa Amadores.
If, like me, you have friends who live in Las Palmas, you will soon know that for them, Playa de las Canteras is the best and most beautiful beach in Gran Canaria. Playa de las Canteras has received the“Blue Flag” from Europe as the most eco-friendly beach in Europe. Despite the presence of the port, water quality is excellent.
The golden yellow beach of Playa de las Canteras is partly protected from the waves by the 100000-year-old“La Barra“. La Barra is a coral reef made of volcanic limestone with a length of more than 3 km.
Playa Canteras is not just beach, there is a nice promenade with beach shops, bars and restaurants including some fish restaurants. La Puntilla is such a part of the promenade where it is lovely to linger. on weekends, however, it can be very busy.
If you come to surf, then the other side of the beach, not so far from the Alfredo Kraus museum, is definitely suitable for this sport. Here again, people’s relaxation has been thought of.
Numerous bars and restaurants pamper you with sea views. There is regularly something to do on the beach such as beach volley, sand sculpture and many other festivities.
Playa de las Canteras is handicapped accessible. Beach chairs and umbrellas can be rented between 09:00 and 17:00 like the other beaches. If you wish to shower, these are also provided on site. The beach is accessible by public transport. More info
El Confital
El Confital beach is located on the peninsula of La Isleta. La Isleta is part of the district of Puerto-Canteras. The district is mostly inhabited by workers and fishermen. Read more below the photos
La Isleta is characterised by narrow streets, antique shops and bars. El Confital beach can be reached by walking along the promenade of Playa de las Canteras. El Confital itself is about 2 km long and is located south-west of La Isleta.
The beach is known among surfers for its perfect waves between 1.5 and 4 metres, its beautiful cliffs and rocks. Some surfers dare to claim that El Confital has the best waves in Europe where high speeds can be reached due to its special character. Las Monjas and La Punta along with the right side of El Confital are the most famous places to surf. The water on this strip is very clean.
El Confital consists of rock and a strip of sandy beach. The beach used to be lined with small houses, but it has recently regained its natural value. The wooden boardwalk and gardens create a pleasant environment. El Confital also has a naturist area and is accessible for wheelchair users.
