Is Tejeda the Smallest Village in Gran Canaria?
The village of Tejeda is perhaps one of the smallest villages on the sunny vacation island. The village is located 1000 meters above sea level, making it the highest located part of Gran Canaria. It is characterized by the white houses surrounded by almond trees. Also here you will find some stores where you can buy local products. The specialty is marzipan with honey and almonds.

Tejeda is small, but the surroundings are just as big and beautiful. The most famous is “Cruz de Tejeda”. This crowd puller is located north of the village. The stone cross stands at an altitude of about 1500 meters. You are here on the Cumbre mountain massif. Just as all roads lead to Rome, all roads lead to Cruz de Tejeda.
Cruz de Tejeda
At the Cruz de Tejeda, they are used to welcoming tourists. Therefore, there is a lot of entertainment such as a ride on a donkey, which children will surely appreciate. At the heart of this crowd-pleaser there are stores and stalls where you can buy souvenirs and local products.
Especially the delicious artisanal mountain honey you should definitely try, this honey is good for the heart and health. Fancy a cup of coffee, a local specialty such as cheese or a snack, or would you rather dine in a restaurant, it is all there.
You will notice that the view from this point gives wonderful panoramic images. In good weather you can see the“Pico de las Nieves” with an altitude of almost 2000 meters. If you are very lucky you can notice the island of Tenerife. Even in Gran Canaria, the weather in the high mountains can change quickly. One moment it can be sunny and warm, the next you better provide a warm sweater.

Museums and History of Tejeda
In the village of Tejeda itself there are two museums and an information center such as “Museo de Esculturas Abraham Cárdenes” where you can see sculptures, an exhibition room, paintings and photography, among other things. The sculptures are by a sculptor from Tejeda.
Museo Tres Cruces
The Tres Cruces Museum, also known as the Palanganas Museum and the Tejeda Trades Museum, offers a fascinating look at traditional life in Gran Canaria. The museum displays an extensive collection of agricultural tools and provides demonstrations of typical tasks in the agricultural and livestock sectors.
Located in the owner’s house, the museum is divided into several rooms, each dedicated to a specific profession such as animal husbandry, carpentry, farming, sewing, shoemaking and barbering. The oldest objects date back to the 18th century and were mostly donated by local residents. Since 2000, about 6,000 objects have been rescued from oblivion.

Museo de Esculturas Abraham Cárdenes
The Abraham Cárdenes Museum, located in the picturesque town of Tejeda, reflects the deep bond between its inhabitants and their environment. This bond has made Tejeda a source of inspiration for singers, painters and sculptors.

Tejeda Medicinal Plants Centre
The Tejeda Medicinal Plants Center is designed to restore and explore the relationship between humans and nature through medicinal plants and their uses. This interactive center offers a unique experience supported by contributions from botanists, pastoralists, anthropologists, geographers, physicians, historians, and chemists.
The exhibition space displays a variety of natural medicinal remedies and provides insights into the origins and functions of plants. Visitors can enjoy unique elements such as:

- Stained glass windows with traditional sayings and riddles
Multipurpose Room

The Highest Swimming Pool in Tejeda with Beautiful Views
After renovation, the Tejeda swimming pool has reopened its doors. Here you can enjoy a refreshing dip with breathtaking views of the Bentayga and Roque Nublo. The Tejeda Municipal Swimming Pool is popular with tourists and residents for its tranquility, open-air feel, and beautiful views.
Facilities and Opening Hours
The swimming pool is open from Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 20:00, and on weekends from 10:00 to 20:00, from mid-June to the end of August or beginning of September (opening hours may change). Mornings are reserved for activities for adults and children. Admission costs two euros for local residents and four euros for other visitors and tourists.
