A real beach holiday is not really for us, but perhaps it is for you. For us, a holiday in Gran Canaria means a few hours on the beach, a walk and of course a terrace.

But first the most important reason why you are visiting this page and that is the beach from Maspalomas to Playa del Ingles. This 7 kilometer long exotic sandy beach is the best when it comes to walking and strolling along the sea. Thousands of tourists use this beach walk every day

There is always something happening, umbrellas that blow away, unexpected waves that wash over the beach, … it makes you thirsty and that has been taken into account.

There are kiosks at regular intervals where you can enjoy a snack, an ice cream or a cocktail in peace. It is always busy, but it is a pleasant atmosphere, so you get to know new people and exchange holiday stories.

Beach seats (hamacas) and parasols (sombrillas) can be rented for a reasonable price of €7.50 per day (price subject to change). From San Agustin to Maspalomas, there are around 4,000 beach chairs and 2,000 umbrellas available

Red Cross lifeguards on the beaches of Gran Canaria

On the beach from Maspalomas to Playa del Ingles there is supervision all day long by lifeguards, the Red Cross and the police. These move on the beach, whether or not motorized.Safety is also guaranteed in remote places by the Red Cross and the Police.

Emergency workers ride back and forth on the beach and the boulevard by mountain bike or motorcycle. On busy days, a police helicopter is even deployed to guarantee the safety of holidaymakers. The highest level of supervision is during the month of August. However, if the crowds are higher than expected in September, it will be extended.

Dogs and cats on the beach: rules and tips

Please note: There is currently no designated dog beach available.

To make your visit with your pet as smooth as possible, we have put together some tips for you:

  • Rules per beach: Always check the specific rules for the beach you want to visit. Some beaches have designated dog zones, while others have a complete dog ban.
  • Dogs on a leash: Dogs must be kept on a leash on most beaches. This ensures the safety of other visitors and animals.
  • Cleaning up: It is mandatory to clean up after your dog. Use the designated waste bins for this purpose.
  • Swimming fun: In some cases, dogs are not allowed in the water. Dogs can hinder or even injure other swimmers.
  • Respect for others: Be considerate of other beach visitors, including those who are allergic to dogs or afraid of animals.

Additional tips:

  • Bring enough water for your dog, especially on hot days.
  • Provide shade where your dog can rest.
  • Don’t forget the sunscreen for yourself and your dog with white or pink fur.
  • Bring a pet first aid kit just in case.

By following these rules and tips, you and your dog can enjoy a wonderful and carefree day at the beach!

Parasol and sunscreen are essential

I highly recommend that you rent or use a parasol. Unfortunately, I see too many accidents every year due to sunburn, heatstroke, or sunstroke. Tourists sometimes even die from careless sunbathing. Protect yourself with a parasol and sunscreen, this is an absolute must!

Clean and well-maintained beach:

The municipal services ensure that the beaches are cleaned daily, both in the morning and in the evening, along their entire length.

Punta de Maspalomas and the Doctor Fish:

At one point you will arrive at Punta de Maspalomas, the separation between Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles. Not really a special place, but here small swarms of fish swim that love to nibble on your feet.

Free foot massage and cleaning:

Yes, you read that right: nibble. These little fish give you a free foot massage and remove dead skin cells from your hands and feet. In the sea this is completely free, while in some commercial establishments in Playa del Ingles you have to pay for it. Whether they are the same fish and have the same effect, you will have to test for yourself. In any case, it feels very pleasant!

Swimming in the sea at Maspalomas beach

The beach area between Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas is also suitable for planksurfers and kite surfing in strong winds. The water temperature of the sea or seawater becomes quite pleasant from late May to October. I don’t know if it is the same with you, but I prefer swimming in the sea to a swimming pool at the hotel. It has its charm partly because of the playful waves that keep challenging you.

Het is een dol spel van zand en golven, die regelmatig bij woeste zee uitnodigen tot een gevecht tussen mens en natuur. Door de wind opgeheven schuurt het zand als een scrub langs je lichaam”.

If you want to know the current weather in Maspalomas, the beach webcam is the way to go. If you still like to hear the weather in the Netherlands or Belgium and then also some news and fun music in the Dutch language, you can listen to the radio on Holland FM. This online radio can also be listened to on the beach on 90.7 as frequency.

If you forgot something at home from swimming costumes or bottoms, there are plenty of beach boutiques where you can still get bargains. They also follow the latest fashion trends because a bikini is no longer just a bikini, tiny sexy bottoms”Hipkini” , Two-piece swimming costume “Tankini“, now I’m deviating of course, sorry I couldn’t resist. So have I made you curious about the very latest swimwear, then this is a good link.

Exposed beach tourism, it is possible in Maspalomas

After some time walking along the coastline towards Playa del Inglés, for true nature lovers there is a 3 km long strip of nudist beach where you can sunbathe naturally.
This strip is public and everyone can therefore sunbathe mixed there with or without swimwear.

Gay contact is inevitable but it is certainly not challenging. The nudist area starts at kiosk number 5 and continues until Playa del Ingles. There is a free spot for everyone. Outside Maspalomas, in addition to this nudist beach, you will also find great other naturist beaches and places where you can sunbathe undisturbed with your partner.

Some of these remote nude beaches are only accessible on foot, mostly on the west coast. You might want to note that the locals sometimes don’t really appreciate it, so bear this in mind.

So you see, a day at beach on Gran Canaria between Meloneras and Playa del Ingles is highly recommended. Have you also been on holiday in Maspalomas and have your own story or suggestion, then I would love to hear from you.
