Vecindario a city on Gran Canaria
Undoubtedly you will feel well in the south of Gran Canaria. However, I would like to bring to the southeast of the island. There we will find the town of Vecindario. This is situated next to the GC-1 motorway. Vecindario belongs to the province of Las Palmas, and is located in the district of Santa Lucia de Tirajana. Will you come with on a discovery tour ...
Municipalities belonging to Vecindario are Casa Santa, Pozo Izquierdo, Barranquillo, El Doctoral, San Pedro Mártir, La Pare Dilla, La Cerruda, Hoya Pavón, San Rafael, El Canario, Casa Pastores, La Unión, Cruce de Sardina La Vereda, Los Llanos y Balos. together represent a population of about 60000 residents.
The airport of Las Palmas and the center of Maspalomas are located about 15 km away from Vecindario. The city is not directly on the coast. The nearest beaches are those of Santa Lucia de Tirajana, Aguimes and Ingenio. Personally, I find the beach of Cruce de Arinaga the most charming. There are hardly any tourists, there has also been a beautiful promenade by the beach with an equally cozy bar.
Arranged over two floors with many wonderful shops include clothing, computers, shoes, Carrefour, McDonalds and various bars and tapas restaurants. If you come by car there is a large car park at the front side of Avenida del Atlántico. This wide promenade runs parallel to the motorway to the GC-500. From the GC-500 you can go directly to the beautiful interior of Gran Canaria. Master you good the Spanish language then you can in the same shopping center to the cinema. Atlántico is located opposite the Gran Hotel Elba Vecindario Aeropuerto.
Shopping in Vecindario
Vecindario is a city in motion. There is a lot of new houses and apartments. It is the town where the locals are setting to live, thanks to the good location. Because it is not touristy prices here are much lower than in the south of the island.
With a length of 4 kilometer is Avenida Canarias the main shopping street of Vecindario This formerly busy street with lots of traffic, is now made largely pedestrianized. It is a nice and clean street with plantings and numerous benches to rest and enjoy the locals. The people here live a large part of the day outside.
Socialize together, card games, chess sets and regularly thirst at one of the many terraces. Moreover, you can in a large part of the commercial center including Avenida Canarias take advantage of free WiFi. What you need aspect to consider for just like in mainland Spain, the siesta. Also on Gran Canaria, most shops close from 13:00 to 16:00. Cafes, bars and restaurants remain open.
The oldest market in Gran Canaria
On Wednesday, I can certainly recommend the weekly market of Santa Lucia. This market is perhaps the oldest of the island of Gran Canaria. Currently, there are already more than 200 stand holders, and there are more and more. It is an authentic market include local products as fruits, vegetables, clothes, shoes, handbags, underwear and all at bargain prices. Fruit and vegetables are farmers on the island and are fresh and of excellent quality. It is a market with a special character and very animated. The local residents and market vendors are very friendly and helpful ..
The market starts at 08:00 until 14:00. There is a parking, but this is usually full. I can recommend you to park the car at the edge of the city. Better is still coming by public transport. The next stop is presented at the Atlántico shopping center or Avenida Canarias. From there you will leave on foot towards the market along Calle Agáldar where you cross to Calle Apuyenta. Have you lost the way to kindly ask one of the residents to “El Mercadillo Recinto Ferial de Vecindario”
Tomatoes and their history from Mexico
Are you a fan of museums, then Vecindario is “Museums La Zafrao“. This museum shows the history of the tomatoes and the plantations. Here and there you will notice some parts of the plantations. Mexico was the country of origin, but by emigrating to the Canary Islands is the production further put here.
